On the 106th episode of Big Orange Couch: The 90s Nickelodeon Podcast, Andrew, Joey and Chris discuss episodes of 90s Nickelodeon that could not exist today because of technological and societal changes. It is the rare list episode were there are no crossover picks! Also, listener letters, What Would YouTube Comments Do, and Close Calls. Plus, mystery songs, answering machines, VHS tapes, and so much more!

Because of this episode, I did try beer for the first time with my sister at a family Christmas party lol. It was in 1996, a Budweiser, and it was nasty 😄😄😄. Our first sin that we repented 😄.

One of my favorite impossible episodes would have to be the one when Helga from Hey Arnold! Has a shrine of Arnold and her mom throws it out. And then she does the impossible to recreate the shrine. Then, she finds out that the shrine is missing Arnold’s hat. So she steals it from Arnold. But then, she finds out how meaningful the hat was to Arnold so in some impossible way, she returns the hat to Arnold.

As for the Cleveland Indians, they’re one of my favorite MLB teams. Like their mascot, I think was supposed to symbolize a tribe in Cleveland. Because we do have the Redskins, and they were a popular tribe in America. So I believe the mascot symbolized that for so long. But in today’s era, people see things differently. So the 90s was an era where everyone was open minded. Now, people are close minded. For instance, the new Power Rangers film. The black ranger was originally black, but in the film, they made him Asian. And the original black ranger was made into the blue ranger. In the 90s there was no problem with that. So yeah I mean I get what you mean. I’m Puerto Rican (Spanish, Native, and African) so like I think the symbol of the Cleveland Indians wasn’t offensive, it just represented the American tribe, the Redskins. And as you know there’s a football team named after that. Some people just get hurt by what they see, but don’t know the history.

I went to high school in the early to mid 2000s (2004-2008) and we did have a dark room in the art classroom. With used to do projects using negatives. And we did have a yearbook my freshman year but nobody would buy it 😄. So we decided to do a senior book. We did have panoramic pictures taken before prom. And we just did a senior scrapbook. I still have mines.

When Joey talked about “Hard Days Pete”, I was like that’s my favorite Pete and Pete episode 😄. Because in the 90s I had that moment too. The song that I loved and I couldn’t figure out the name of until 23 years later, was “Breakfast at Tiffany’s” by Deep Blue Something. I couldn’t get that song out of my mind. I kept singing it over and over again without knowing the title. Then, 23 years later, I was listening to Pandora radio on my phone and it came on. I was like wow all this time it was “Breakfast at Tiffany’s” 😄
